Chameleon Cold-Brew Coffee

I never thought I would become a convert.

I was dug in, addicted, scoffed at any coffee brand other than the one that shall, in this blog post, go unnamed. Then came the day that a shipment of Chameleon Cold-Brew Organic Coffee arrived on my doorstep. I never refuse tasting coffee, especially premium coffee. (I admit I am a coffee snob.) But I never liked any enough to switch my brand, much less finish the cup.

I thought the assortment of Chameleon flavors looked interesting, and very appealing indeed. I lined them up enticingly in the fridge, and asked my family to sample them. No takers.

What a bunch of brand-loyal wimps we were.

Then came the day I ran out of my own beans. But…I had those bottles of Chameleon Cold-Brew Coffee and was willing – nay, had promised – to give them a try.
I opened a bottle of basic Black and was hooked at first whiff. That aroma…
I wanted hot coffee though, and this was cold-brew. It is a fallacy that cold brew can only be enjoyed cold! How best to heat it? I got the directions from the website. By simply heating the coffee for 60 seconds in the microwave, and adding it to frothed soy milk, I quickly whipped up a delicious soy latte. It was heaven in a cup.
Let’s Talk Cold Brew

Brewing coffee is chemistry. That said, a cold-brew isn’t the same as a hot-brewed pot of joe Cold-brewed coffee is just that, beans and cool water, steeped together for many hours; a minimum of 12, however Chameleon pushes that to 16 hours for a richer flavor. Cold-brew is less acidic than hot brew, therefore less abrasive to your teeth and less erosive to your stomach lining. Whereas a pot of hot coffee will get stale, cold-brew has staying power – again, different chemistry – the bottle will keep in the fridge so you can use the amount you need as desired.Ingredients are Key

Being that the ingredients are simply coffee beans and water, quality is key. This may not be the case with all brands (it seems everyone is now getting on board the cold-brew bandwagon) but for Chameleon it is of paramount importance and you can really taste the difference. The company only uses fresh roasted organic beans combined with pure Texas Hill Country water.
I am sticking with Chameleon. I have not only become a convert, but a die-hard fan. It’s super easy to whip up your own Espresso Latte at home.
Just heat and froth your choice of milk (I use the CBTL Milk Frother), and add an equal amount of heated Chameleon Cold-Brew Espresso (or the Chameleon Cold-Brew flavor of your choosing).
